IAB, S.L. (Investigaciones y Aplicaciones Biotecnológicas S.L.) has established itself as one of the leading national spanish company specialized in the manufacture of microbial inoculants for agricultural use.
Concrete steps are being taken by the company, to converge towards full compliance of the Biostimulant Code of Conduct, so once the European regulation has entered into effect, our position and development about future biostimulant products in our catalogue, is clear.
Under this new frame, IAB has prepared a code of conduct compliance plan and presented to EBIC the 4th december of 2013:
EBIC CODE IMPLEMENTATION
One of the main actions for us, has been to prepare workshops inside the company in order to explain what is EBIC and how it will be the future regulation about biostimulants . During last month of May, IAB prepared workshops for our distributors in order to explain the biostimulant claims, and made an special training of sales and technical personnel of the Company. Training of employees is important, so they are aware about the acceptable claims for biostimulants.
We intend to keep communicating under technical workshops, our experimental work and expectations about the future biostimulant regulation.
IAB was presented as an exhibitor in the first edition of the Vegetal World Congress & Exhibition in Valencia, an unique event, led by the magazine Phytoma and the Feria de Valencia and aimed to the professionalization of Mediterranean agriculture, marked by IPM (Integrated Pest Management), and the new Sustainable Use Directive.
Among other things, during the fair it was presented a technical poster on new management tools to control root-knot phytopathogenic nematodes, made of a microbial consortium included in a synergistic formulation. A talk on its flagship product, strain IABBS03, and the new Zucman-Vera plants vaccination technology was given, in addition to presenting its new line of biostimulants/ biofertilizers microbial inoculants.
The R+D+i department of the company has been working for years to develop this new product line , called Inomix Series, which will help reduce fertilizer applications in a meaningful way in our crops. IAB focuses on this new product line, which provides a significant improvement of plant nutrition, by caring for our soil, always in a respectful manner with the environment and products that maintain the quantitative and qualitative quality that characterizes us.
During the fair and arising from the Path of Biocontrol organized by IBMA Spain, where IAB is fully involved by its current presidency (Estefanía Hinarejos is the current president of the association IBMA Spain), a workshop was held using Petri dishes and various pictures in order to explain the operation of a microbial antagonist used as a biological control agent.
The whole IAB team has participated in defining the strategic lines of the company in terms of R&D. This R &D department has obtained a concession of a CDTI project for the production of secondary metabolites from microorganisms.
They have also been established strategic lines of development for the coming months and defined potential expanding markets such as the United States.
All IAB team has worked together in the development of the new image, contributing ideas and proposals to complete a young company but with great maturity, with experience in production, design and development of microbial inoculants.
Presentation ceremony and gala dinner of the conference, with the participation of Estefanía Hinarejos, the President of IBMA Spain and member of the IAB team.
IAB has actively participated in the organization and conduct of the Technical Conference MDF (Plant Strengtheners Workshop), held last April in Valencia, as a discussion forum to establish a clear definition of MDF permitting its marketing on the basis of technical and scientific criteria.
The legislative framework regulating the marketing of so-called MDF takes origin in the Law 43 /2002 on Plant Health. The Order APA/1470/2007 is the text develops Chapter IV of Section III of that law and regulates the conditions and requirements to market these MDF other than pesticides and fertilizers.
The publication of the Royal Decree that presumably repeals the Order APA/1470/2007 seems imminent and will become the new legislative framework to regulate the marketing of MDF.
The conference represented a panel discussion to discuss the issue in depth with all sectors involved, including companies, industry associations and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment for finding positive solutions and common points in the establishment of a clear definition of MDF, as differentiated products in respect of plant protection products and fertilizers; cataloging the role of the “Autonomous Communities” (CCAA) in the evaluation process for the marketing authorization of MFD; and the legal aspects of the new Royal Decree in reference to the MDF already on the market.
